Free online chord & key finder
A chord finder listens to a recording and works out the musical key and the full chord progression — the harmonic backbone of the song. Instead of pausing and rewinding to figure out chords by ear, you upload the track and an AI tells you what key the song is in and which chords it uses, in seconds. It works as both a song key finder and a chord detector in one.
This online chord finder is ideal for learning covers, transcribing songs, transposing into a comfortable key, and double-checking the harmony in your own productions. For DJs and producers, detecting the key also makes harmonic mixing and key-matching effortless.
How AI chord recognition works
The model analyses the harmonic content of your audio over time — the notes sounding together at each moment — and maps them to chords, then tracks how those chords change through the song. It also estimates the overall root key and its Camelot code, so you get both the big picture (the key) and the detail (the chord-by-chord progression with a timeline). This is far faster and more consistent than transcribing chords manually.
Once the analysis is done you can play the song back with the chords synced to a waveform — a play-along chord timeline that scrolls in time with the music, so you can jump to any section and practise it on loop. An on-screen piano shows the exact notes (the voicing) of whatever chord is playing, and you can export the full progression to a MIDI file to open in any DAW. It's a complete chord and key finder, practice tool and starting point for remixes in one.
What key is this song in?
Knowing a song's key is essential for transposing to suit a vocalist's range, writing complementary melodies and harmonies, and mixing tracks that sound good together. Our key finder returns the detected root key (for example C major or A minor) alongside the chords, so you can transpose, capo or key-match with confidence.
Who uses a chord & key finder
- Guitarists & pianists learning songs without paying for chord sheets.
- Singer-songwriters transposing a track into a singable key.
- Producers checking the harmony and key of samples and references.
- DJs key-matching tracks for smooth harmonic mixing.
- Music students & teachers studying chord progressions and theory.
Accuracy & supported audio
Chord detection is most accurate on songs with clear harmony — piano, guitar or full-band mixes. Very dense, atonal or heavily-distorted material is harder, so treat the result as a strong starting point and trust your ear for the fine detail. The chord finder accepts MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, OGG and AIFF, and your uploaded file is deleted automatically after analysis — the detected key and chords are saved to your private history so you can re-open them or export the MIDI again anytime.
